I hate Utah

I'm pretty sure it was made obvious to everyone who saw me on campus today that I grew up with the temperate weather on the coast. But in all honesty, Utah weather is completely unreasonable. Allow me to explain.

This morning, I got up and saw outside that it was kinda sunny, with just a few clouds in the sky.

Totally fine. Kinda pretty, even.

I was running late anyway, so I just slipped on my flip flops and ran out the door to my class. Cut to an hour later, and I walk out of the JKB and straight into a blizzard.

Except it wasn't pretty. Just really really annoying.

I was in my SANDALS. My toes were FREEZING. And my sandals have NO TRACTION. Which makes it worse because I WAS SLIDING ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize in advance for my temper tantrum.

Get me out of here.

Give me your ears

I don't want your heart,
I just want your ears.

I don't want your troubles,
but I'll catch every tear.

I don't want your lips,
though I'll listen to all they say.

I don't want your hands to hold,
but I'll warm then on your coldest day.

Blog game thingy

So I avidly read my friend Candace's blog, and I found this little survey thing about personal favorites. I enjoy surveys, I always have, and I have no idea why. But I thought it would be fun to fill out the survey and post it. So here goes:

Food: That would have to be pizza. Even after eating it weekly for the past 18 years.

Color: Ok, in all honesty, I love black. But if I had to pick another color, I'd pick dark blue.

Animal: It's a pretty even contest between a wolf and tiger.

Sports Team: I've never been much of a sports person, but I do love my Cougs!!

Dessert: Raspberry Lemon Cheesecake

Artist/Singer/Band: Ugh. I have too many. But lets narrow it down... Green Day, Paramore, Coldplay, Muse, Radiohead (not in any particular order).

Pair of shoes: My bright blue Vans. Or my TOMS.

Outfit: Any pair of jeans and a nice shirt, usually.

Store: Pacsun/Zumiez, and also H+M

Brand: Bullhead jeans. Or Billabong.

Perfume: Viva La Juicy, by Juicy Couture

Accessory: I always have my fake Dolce&Gabanna sunglasses with me.

City: That is a tough one... I'll say, besides DC, I love Vienna, Austria.

Hobby: Playing ukulele/guitar/piano/singing.

Beauty product: Garnier Fructis hair mousse

Snack: Euhhhhh pretzels with Nutella. Gooooooood stuff.

Holiday: Christmas. :D

Movie: AHHHHH TOO MANY!!!!!!!

Song: Once again, WAY TOO MANY TO PICK FROM. But if I have to choose, the one song I have always loved and never skipped over on my iPod is American Idiot by Green Day.

Guilty pleasure: Call me a nerd or a dork or whatever you want, but I love the entire Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The movie sucked though.

My idol

I found a quote today that I absolutely love, said by one of my favorite musicians of all time.

"Music - that's been my education. There's not a day that goes by that I take it for granted."

- Billie Joe Armstrong

A celebration of birth

I would like to give a quick shout-out to my boy Jordan Matheney, who's birthday is TODAY. He's serving a mission in the Philippines at the moment and won't be back until the end of December, so he's not gonna see this for like 9 months, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

I would also like to mention the fact that this is his magic birthday. It is March 23rd, and he is turning 23! Fun stuff.

Hoppy Birfdayyyy.... and nice watch tan. :D

What joy :)

My friend Rachel posted this video on her Facebook page today. I swear the whole floor could hear me laughing.

I hope that my big day has this much joy and laughter to offer. What a wonderful way to start a marriage!!!

A friend of a friend

My friend Leah has another friend named Taylor, and it just so happens that this friend of hers named Taylor is greatly blessed in the way of musical talent. In fact, he recently signed a record deal and just released 2 new singles on iTunes.

Ok, we all know me. I'm a sucker for good music.

So naturally, I went and checked those new singles out. And I was extremely pleased with what I heard. The two singles are called "This Is How It Ends" (my personal favorite) and "We Become Light." There are also some remixes available for each song.

Very impressive, people. If you wanna go check it out, search for "The Secret Satellite" on iTunes. I highly recommend it. :)

Awesome cover art, não é?

Dear, it took so long just to feel alright

I know I can't take one more step towards you
Cause all that's waiting is regret
And don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are?

I hear you're asking all around
If I am anywhere to be found
But I have grown too strong
To ever fall back in your arms

Dear, it took so long just to feel alright
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed
Cause you broke all your promises
And now you're back
You don't get to get me back

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all
Who do you think you are?
Who do you think you are?
Who do you think you are?

Today I received a call from.... something.... (totally forgot the name of this thing) and they told me I was a finalist in the drawings for a brand new 2011 Lincoln Navigator.

How fancy.

I kid you not. Unfortunately, I had to be honest and tell them I had no recollection of entering this contest. And they said they probably called me in error, quickly apologized, and hung up.

Oh, well. I don't need a Lincoln Navigator.... but I definitely want one now. :P

St. Patrick's Day

I really love irish music :)

Elvis Costello - She ( Soundtrack to Notting Hill, 1999 )

Here's a llama, there's a llama...

I love random things. So I was overly excited today when I walked towards the Widtsoe building to meet with my Bio TA's, and I happened across a llama.

Hello, llama. You made my life.

My guess is that it had something to do with advertising for the yellow table in the background. I didn't bother to ask, though. I really didn't care. I was just happy that there was a llama.

It's the little things like this that make me happy.

My Pookie

I would like to announce the homecoming of my dear friend Justin Johnson (aka. Pookie.... or François). He served a mission in Mexico for two years, and he got home last night. I cannot wait to see him when I go home for the summer. :)

I've missed this cool cat. :)

Babies babies babies.... (and other relevant topics)

I had a weekend full of babies.

I went up to Idaho (as you already know if you keep up with this blog regularly) and I attended my cousins baby shower. At that shower, in addition to the baby being celebrated, there were also 5 more babies in attendance. I only bothered to get pictures of the baby being celebrated (Trinelle) and her cousin (Hunter).

This is Trinelle.

Look into those eyes and tell me she's not precious.

This is Trinny and Hunter.

Lil cousins!!

I was baby-happy. It was great.

In other news, I also got to spend some quality time with my cousin Andy, who was just called to serve a mission in Mexico City.

He's such a rock star.

He'll be leaving near the end of June, and so I won't get to see him again for 2 years. Sad sad. But I wish him luck!!

And FINALLY, happy pi day!!!

Yum yum.

An angel's smile is what you sell

Shot through the heart and you're to blame
Darlin' you give love a bad name

An angel's smile is what you sell
You promise him heaven then put him through hell
Chains of love got a hold on him
When passion's a prison you can't break free

Oh! You're a loaded gun, yeah
Oh! There's nowhere to run
No one can save him
The damage is done

Shot through the heart and you're to blame
You give love a bad name
(Bad name)
He played his part and you played your game
You give love a bad name
(Bad name)
Hey, you give love a bad name

Today's the day!!!

I'm so excited!! I'm leaving today!! I don't even care about the 4 hour bus ride!! I get to get out of the BYU bubble!! YAY!

By tonight, I shall be in THIS state:

Love me my potatoes.

Also, for reasons unbeknownst to me, I Googled Idaho and got THIS picture:

I'll build a house next to the falls and live there til I die.

Granted, I don't know if this is actually in Idaho, but I thought it was really pretty and wanted to share.

The turning of tables

This week has begun to take a turn for the better. This morning I got up early and aced a French oral (not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but are we surprised? not really...) and then went on to conquer the day. I ordered a guitar strap off and got free shipping for being a university student (one of the perks of a higher education), and also ordered two of my favorite movies (both for under $2), Bride Wars and The Women. (I FREAKING LOVE AMAZON.COM.)

I would like to talk about The Women for a moment. So few people have heard of this chic flic masterpiece and that needs to be remedied right NOW.

So.... chic flic-esque...

I can't really adequately express to you what exactly it is that this movie has got that makes me love it so much. I can only say it's got this perfect mesh of classiness and trashiness. It depicts WOMEN so well, so spot on... it's fantastic. Here's the one-sentence synopsis from IMDb: "A wealthy New Yorker leaves her cheating husband and bonds with other society women at a resort." To get the FULL plot (if you don't mind spoilers), you can go to good 'ol Wikipedia and read all about it.

IN OTHER NEWS, guess who's gettin' away this weekend? YEAH, ME. I'm going up to Pocatello, Idaho this weekend to hang with my aunt and cousins. I'll get to see my Grandma before I go home for the summer, and I'll get to see my cousin Andy for the last time before he leaves for his mission in Mexico this summer. I might also be seeing my best friend Aubrey, if she manages to find time to come down from Rexburg (she's at BYU-I). I'll be heading out on Friday afternoon and coming back on Sunday. SO PUMPED!

I hope things go according to plan. If so, this weekend will be great. :D

While I'm at it...

I found another quote earlier today that made me smile (especially because I could apply it to how I'm feeling with bio killing me slowly and painfully).

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it will live it's whole life believing that it is stupid."
- Albert Einstein

In fits of anger...

These past two days have been less than good. With my stuff breaking, and drowning in work, and having 5 TESTS IN A 4 DAY PERIOD (which is nothing less than ABSURD), and just feeling like Biology is intentionally trying to slit my throat, I was, well... angry... this evening. I don't often get mad like I did tonight. You know what's the best thing to do when you're mad?

That's right. Blow stuff up.

Boom BOOM.

Cut to me and Ashley and Holly on the top of level of the parking garage next to the Tanner building with a pack of mento's and a 2-liter bottle of diet coke. Well, we pulled a mild STUPID and didn't realize that the coke's reaction time was like, .2 seconds. We all got a bubble bath. It was beautiful.

Not to mention the fact that we left a nice, sizeable stain on the ground.

Ashley the trusty roommate dutifully poses
next to our incriminating evidence.

I feel better now.

The ultimate screw-over

I'm sure there are many things in the world that screw people over on a much grander scale than I am being screwed over, but in all honesty, right now I find it unbelievable that people haven't caught onto this already.

Ladies and gentlemen, I cannot even begin to describe to you the irritation that I feel towards the headphone/earbud industry. I've always been careful never to spend more that $20 on a pair of earbuds. However, it really doesn't make a difference because in the past 2 1/2 years, I have probably spent over $200 and gone through about 17 pairs of earbuds. Those little suckers have never lasted more that 3 months before the cord snaps, or one or both sides blow out. It is AGGRAVATING AS ALL HECK.

Can you guess why I'm whining about this right now? It might have something to do with the fact that my current pair (cute little SkullCandy buds in the Jamaican National Colors) just busted themselves this afternoon.

However, when I graduated last summer, I received a beautiful pair of huge, shiny Bowers & Wilkins headphones as a gift.

Hello, there, beautiful.

These bad larry's have not even wavered in their functionality. Unfortunately, I can't wear them when working out. 1 - I would look like a fool. 2 - They would get all sweaty, and moisture is deadly to almost everything electronic. 3 - They would fall off easily anyway, so there's really no point.

Guess I'm stuck in this vicious cycle forever. (Or until they start making quality buds at affordable prices... who am I kidding??? That'll never happen.)

Crank up the tunes, yo

It's the 8th!!! Time for more music!

In your head
Make them like you

I'm wonderstruck
Blushing all the way home

Like if the world should disappear
Only music will remain.

Sunshine on a rainy day

So I happened across a quote today that made me smile.

"To improve is to change, to be perfect is to change often."

- Emerson

You can't evade the inevitable.

In the tradition of sucky Mondays, I was in a rush this morning, and as I ran to grab by backpack after lunch my beautiful, trusty iPod touch fell out of my pocket. I've dropped my iPod on several occasions before this, and it has held out just fine, so I picked it up without even looking at it and shoved it back in my pocket. However, upon pulling it out later, I discovered this:

Beautiful. Just lovely.

Of course, this happens to THOUSANDS of people all the time. However, this has NEVER happened to me. I've owned 5 different iPods before this one, and not once have I ever cracked the screen on any of them. But of course, this was inevitable. It's about time I made this mistake. I mean, I'm really lucky it's lasted these 2 years without any real damage.

I've even been considering getting a new iPod anyway. Well, "new" to me, but I'm definitely buying a used iPod. Yay for being cheap!!!

Basically, I had the best Saturday night ever.  But instead of describing it to you, I'll let you watch it in this video I made, basically nutshelling the whole night into almost 5 minutes.

Bem-vindos ao mês de Março!

Colbie Caillat - I Never Told You

Colbie Caillat - I Never Told You
I miss those blue eyes
How you kiss me at night
I miss the way we sleep
Like there's no sunrise
Like the taste of your smile
I miss the way we breathe
But I never told you
What I should have said
No, I never told you
I just held it in
And now,
I miss everything about you
I can't believe that I still want you
And after all the things we've been through
I miss everything about you
Without you
I see your blue eyes
Everytime I close mine
You make it hard to see
Where I belong to
When I'm not around you
It's like I'm alone with me
But I never told you
What I should have said
No, I never told you
I just held it in
And now,
I miss everything about you (still you're gone)
I can't believe that I still want you (and loving you, I never should've walked away)
And after all the things we've been through (I know I never gonna go away)
I miss everything about you
Without you
But I never told you
What I should have said
No, I never told you
I just held it in
And now,
I miss everything about you (still you're gone)
I can't believe that I still want you (and loving you, I never should've walked away)
And after all the things we've been through (I know I never gonna go away)
I miss everything about you
Without you

Sicked out

I've never been a sickly kid. I rarely got the flu, and not because I always got the shots... I hated the shots, and I fought against them as much as possible. Honestly, I can't remember any times that I was really sick.

However, during high school I discovered that cold viruses have this uncanny ability to incapacitate me.

I first found this out when I caught a cold about 2 weeks before spring break my sophomore year. I was literally out of school for a week, sitting in bed with several rolls of toilet paper and a trashcan next to my bed. I also kept a stack of books with me, because when you're confined to a bed, there's not much you can do other than read, or beg your mother to move the TV into your room so you can watch movies.

It was misery.

Picture this, but 10 years older.

Luckily, I only got one more cold after that, during my senior year. But my luck ran out as soon as I got to Utah.

The first week of fall semester, I was once again afflicted with a cold. The same thing happened the first week of WINTER semester. And of course, my hypothesis was that perchance I was just tired from all the stress of starting up a new semester, and so I was more prone to illness. However, this past week I fell prey to the cold once again.

Why??? Why must I be the one the cold picks on???

This doesn't even begin to illustrate my frustration and confusion.

It's not often that I ask people to shoot me in the head.

P.S. If you haven't already, PLEASE click Follow!! I'd really like to know who my audience is!! Please please PLEASE and thank you!!!

Tumblr - Day 24

Day 24:
A letter to your parents.

Hey parental units. I've been putting this off for a while.
But I think it's a pretty appropriate time for this letter.
I'm not going to say everything on my mind.. but I'll summarize.
I have recently realized that there's too many times I take for granted all the love I have for each of you.
Through the good times and the bad,
you guys will always be there for me.
I will never have nothing to come back to.
I really want you each to know that I love you both.
No matter what.
After everything is said and done,
you are my mother and father.
No one will ever replace you two.
I want both of you to be happy.
Your happiness is my happiness.
Do what your heart is telling you.
No matter what, I'll always love you.
Now and forever.
